Designed by The Smith Group, a local Detroit firm with more than a Century of experience, this brand new downtown branch of the YMCA is the flagship of the YMCA’s major expansion program throughout the Detroit area. This project located right in the heart of downtown Detroit, with Olympic sized pool, running track and indoor climbing wall, makes a pretty strong statement that “this is not your Daddy’s YMCA”.

HVG utilized a Kawneer high span curtainwall system, including a factory unitized foursided structurally glazed areas. Extensive interior glass curtainwalls separate the different building spaces, including a four-story central core atrium.

The main entrance lobby is a three story space with high span curtainwall, automated smoke evacuation vents, and of course the infamous Climbing wall. HVG also completed a channel glass wall to accent the lobby and reception area.

An exciting addition to Downtown Detroit, and HVG is pleased to have been part of the venture.
